Chapter 3
- Verse 2 in the NIV (C) 1973-2010 read “Now the overseer is to be above reproach the husband of but one wife…” while the NIV (C) 2011 now reads “Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife…” Notice the circus… From 1973-2010 NIV believers were taught that women couldnt be bishops/pastors (overseers), elders or deacons because no woman can be a husband. Those offices are for males only. The 2011 update softened this by stating the office holder must be “faithful to his wife” (true enough) but only IF the office holder is a man. Dropping “husband” no longer restricts leadership exclusively to a man. The “update” says NOTHING about unmarried or female office holders. And the result… Notice below how the NIV folks arguably Biblicized female deacons by turning Phoebe from a servant into a deacon. Romans 16:1 “I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant…” now states “I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon…” What kind of flip-flop, chaotic God does the NIV represent?
- Verse 12 in the NIV (C) 1973-2010 read “A deacon must be the husband of but one wife…” while the NIV (C) 2011 now reads “A deacon must be faithful to his wife”. Please read the notes above on verse 2.
